Cloud Engineers

Cloud Engineers are responsible for deploying, supporting and maintaining public, private, hybrid and multi cloud platforms, typically based on AWS or Azure. They ensure cloud systems are highly available, reliable, scalable, secure and fit for purpose. They work with cross functional teams including software, DevOps and Architecture. Engineers will have good skills in Cloud Storage, Networking, Virtualisation, Linux and DevOps. They will also have a wider background in Systems Engineering. Other skills include APIs and Web Services, and coding skills in Python, Java, SQL and .Net.

Cloud Specialist

Cloud Infrastructure Specialists design, build and manage highly available cloud computing infrastructure for clients.  They are responsible for ensuring cloud infrastructure meets business objectives and strategic goals, and they collaborate with functional and technical teams to develop deployment strategies for new and existing solutions taking accountability for the reliability and security of cloud services. They also identify ways to improve the performance and stability of services and applications running on cloud services through continuous improvement and automation.

Network Engineer

A Network Engineer is a technology professional who has the skills to design, build, implement and maintain all network devices that support voice, data, video and wireless network services. Complexity can vary depending on the size and scale of the business. Skills include in depth knowledge of routing & switching technologies, LAN/WAN and IP networks, good scripting skills and advanced knowledge of routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF and EIGRP. Relevant certifications include CCNA, CCNP or CCIE.

Network Designer

Network Designers deliver detailed designs & implementation plans for business network infrastructures. They evaluate and understand the scope of the network to be implemented, then deliver a network diagram that acts as the blueprint for implementation. They deliver a logical map of the networks to be built, cabling structure, quantity, type and location of network devices (router, switches, servers) and IP addressing structure. They also work with security professionals to build in network security architecture.

NOC Engineer

Network operations Center (NOC) Engineers are responsible for providing support for network connectivity issues, and ensure the network runs smoothly. They deal with things such as DDoS Attacks, power outages, network failures, and routing black-holes. They also provide remote support, configure hardware and monitor activity, such as network usage. They coordinate with field engineers to provide issue resolution, respond to tickets and manage changes, upgrades, improvements and integrations.

Systems Engineer

Systems Engineers or Administrators work to ensure that underlying business IT systems and platforms work as intended and provide ongoing upgrades and enhancements. This includes Level 2 and 3 support, configuring hardware and software and project work. Technologies include Wintel, Server, Storage, Virtualisation, Public, Private & Hybrid Cloud, End User Compute and more. They typically work on client sites and interact with business people, needing a combination of good technical problem solving skills and soft skills.

Unix Engineer or Linux Engineer

Unix / Linux Systems Engineers are responsible for installing, configuring and maintaining open source Unix and Linux based servers and workstations. They optimise performance and manage operating system technology environments across multiple locations. Additionally, they troubleshoot issues, perform all systems maintenance and deliver upgrades and enhancements. Skills include knowledge of various flavours of Unix and Linux operating systems, good virtualisation skills, strong scripting skills, and have knowledge of cloud technologies and IT systems management tools.

Service Desk & Technical Support

A Service Desk Analyst is the first level of support that helps users resolve issues with systems, networks or applications. They respond to user raised tickets, triage problems and help resolve Level 1 or Level 2 technical support issues for users. They coordinate with other technology engineers and technicians to provide further assistance on tasks that are outside the scope of their knowledge or expertise and take the lead in ensuring issues are resolved in a timely fashion. They balance technical problem-solving with good customer service skills.
